"Taking A Bite Out of Childhood Hunger"
in Lake Stevens
Hungry Hearts Foundation (HH), formerly known as Li'l Hungry Hearts (LHH) is proud to announce that it has recently received it's Non-Profit status. Hungry Hearts is a non-profit organization that will continue to help feed hungry school-aged children who are currently on the National School Lunch Program by providing them with supplemental food for the weekends and school holidays. Many students are getting enough to eat at school during the week through the National School Lunch Program, however, when they are home on the weekends there often is not enough to eat. Supplemental kid-friendly foods are packaged in nondescript bags that are distributed to students on Fridays. All of the students remain completely anonymous.
Hungry Hearts works in cooperation with the Lake Stevens School District to identify children in need of our services and is run by volunteers found through school's PTA/PTSA and the community. HH relies on donations of food and money from our local businesses, churches, and greater community.

Data map provided by Feeding America
More than a third of all those served by Northwest Harvest are children. They are also the most vulnerable. Research by Children’s HealthWatch finds that:
Education - Hungry kids can’t learn!
Inability to concentrate, poor academic performance, headaches and stomach aches and more behavior problems—these are some of what teachers see when children come to school hungry.
Even with school meals, 1 in 4 children in our state struggles with hunger, which is the main reason Li'l Hungry Hearts (LHH) started its backpack program in Lake Stevens - to send home supplemental food for the weekend. LHH addresses the gap where children are going hungry Friday when they leave school until Monday morning and also during extended school holidays.
Students who participate with the Li'l Hungry Hearts come back to school on Mondays ready to go and ready to learn.
Research increasingly shows strong ties to nutrition and overall health.
